11:30 Subliminal

A case can be made for a few, but SUBLIMINAL loves it round here and continues to go from strength-to-strength, again winning with a bit in hand last week. He is fancied to complete a quick hat-trick and take his course and distance winning tally up to six from a 3lbs higher mark. Sophosc has dropped to a handy mark and didn’t enjoy the rub of the green behind the selection last time, so is feared most with the in-form Corked another solid place contender.

12:00 Toronado Grey

This doesn’t look the strongest race of its type and TORONADO GREY very much caught the eye at Kempton last time. He started at 50/1, but he left his previous efforts well behind, and he may well have won if given a more pro-active ride. Toronado Grey is one to watch out for now and he is well up to winning a race of this nature. Who Cares Wins has to be feared, while Fairy Cakes seems sure to improve also.

12:31 Going Places

GOING PLACES has seemingly had his fair share of problems. Now a five-year-old who has been limited to just two career starts, but he has since joined a yard very adept with such types, and his pedigree is an ongoing recommendation. Archie Watson landed a big gamble with a similar type at Kempton earlier this week and Going Places looks the one to beat on the pick of his form for Roger Varian.

13:05 Snow Ocean

SNOW OCEAN completed a hat-trick on turf at Chester and Goodwood last season and pulled clear of the remainder returned to the all-weather at Wolverhampton last month. That was another career-best performance (beaten only by a rival who was on a steeper upward curve) and he still looks on a good mark following a 3lbs rise. He shades the vote over progressive-filly Make It Rain and six-time course and distance winner El Ghazwani.

13:40 Sheila

A tricky handicap to unpick given it’s full of in-form types, but SHEILA is the least exposed and is fancied to reverse form with Marion’s Boy. Sheila opened her account in good style at Chelmsford in September and was only just beaten over a mile-and-a-quarter here last time. Now 4lbs better off with Marion’s Boy, she is fancied to come out on top over this longer trip.

14:15 Cardano

Ian Williams fields two live contenders here in CARDANO and Autumn War. The latter isn’t passed over lightly in his bid to make it three in-a-row, but preference is for Cardano. He went agonisingly close at Newcastle last time, pulling clear of the remainder, and remains feasibly treated after a 4lbs rise. Centroid’s effort at Chelmsford on debut for new connections was encouraging and he is also shortlisted.

14:50 One Hart

Mark Johnston is starting to up the ante at present and ONE HART is fancied to build on his promising return to action at Kempton three weeks ago. He was badly out of sorts prior, but had clearly been rejuvenated by a short break – having every chance approaching the final furlong, but staying on at the same pace after. He ought to strip fitter for that run and he should be competitive in this field. Corazon Espinado went close here last week and is feared most.

15:25 Knowing Glance

At the likely prices, it could be worth chancing KNOWING GLANCE, who has hardly beaten a rival in four starts for Stuart Williams. But, he has subsequently dropped below his last winning mark and represents a yard bang in form. Invincible Larne rates an obvious player on paper having ran up to his best when runner-up at Chelmsford last month, while Come On Girl is another to consider after her recent course and distance victory.

1.05pm – Holymacapony (Each-Way)

I’m going for HOLYMACAPONY, and I’m going to forgive the pulled-up effort the last day as too bad to be true. That suggested something was wrong but Henry de Bromhead is not going to run the horse unless everything is okay. Each-way, why not?

1.35pm – Chacun Pour Soi

CHACUN POUR SOI has to win well, but Min shouldn’t really beat him. However, Min is better than Notebook and the gap between them in the market should be bigger. There might therefore be a bit of value in the without market if you want to have a bet on this race, but Chacun looks like he will be very difficult to beat. I think he’s going to win and go to Cheltenham as a banker.

2.10pm – Franco De Port (Each-Way)

Energumene is the most likely winner but the pace of this race could be even quicker than the race at Christmas that FRANCO DE PORT won. He was dead out the back that day and came through and picked up the pieces at a very fast pace. I can’t see him winning, but he could get in the places.

2.45pm – Epson Du Houx

Paddy Power Horse Racing Today

I started with The Shunter but I was really impressed with EPSON DU HOUX. He was visually impressive at Naas and looked very progressive. He’s obviously up in the handicap but Henry de Bromhead is having a cracking season and I think he will be very hard to keep out of the frame.

3.15pm – Honeysuckle

I got stuck into Sharjah last year, against HONEYSUCKLE, and that was very disappointing. I still wonder this year that maybe Sharjah will want a longer trip. Honeysuckle is the one that will like the ground best while I think Saint Roi might be overrated. Abacadabras is a really big price and he has won twice on heavy ground – one was a Grade 1 – while he ran Shishkin to a neck in the Supreme last year. He’s got a big chance, but I’m going with the favourite simply because of the ground.

3.50pm – Blue Sari

I think JP McManus might win this, as he’s got about six runners in it! The Moyglass Flyer is one that Mark Walsh is riding, so maybe that is the choice of those. BLUE SARI obviously has lots of ability but has been disappointing since nearly beating Envoi Allen in the Cheltenham Bumper. None of the horses in this field could get near Envoi Allen so Blue Sari may be absolutely chucked in – if it happens to be going well at home.

4.25pm – Ramillies

I think RAMILLIES is a certainty, because he was so impressive at Christmas. I’m just surprised to see Patrick Mullins on Kilcruit because Ramillies was so good and I just assumed he would be on him. Visually, Ramillies was just so impressive and he’s a great price.
