On Swiss, it is possible to book business class seats free of charge, with the exception of the so-called “throne seats” which have extra space (see photo below). These seats are reserved for Swiss’s premium elite passengers, Senators. If you do not have Senator status and want to reserve one of them you must pay and boy, is it expensive! I was able to score a “throne seat” in Swiss Business Class for the long-haul between Los Angeles and Zurich. Though overall a good flight, Swiss has a few areas where it could make improvements. May 29, 2017 Swiss Boeing 777-300ER Business Class I’ve had the pleasure of flying Swiss between Hong Kong and Zurich multiple times, and it’s one of the better business class products that I’ve seen thus far.

We flew in SWISS business class onboard their flagship 777 aircraft as a part of a SWISS 3 Continent Global Fare. The cabin is large for a business class cabin, with 64 business class seats and an alternating 1-2-2 / 2-2-1 configuration.

The alternating configuration of the SWISS Business Class Cabin means each second row has a single seat near the window. These seats are known as throne seats and can be booked ahead of your trip for an additional fee. Alternatively you can take your chances when the seat selection opens up 24 hours before your flight departures. The throne seats not only mean you have direct aisle access and no-one next to you, but also come with a lot more storage.

The additional storage of the throne seat does make you feel a little ‘boxed in’ however once in your seat there’s plenty of leg room.

Your seat can be converted to a fully flat bed at the touch of a button. A sleep kit is provided including a comfortable quilt and a full size pillow. The layout of the cabin means that the bed is straight, but does have quite a bit of narrowing in the footwell.

Your seat can be adjusted to a variety of different positions allowing you to recline to watch the entertainment screen which is packed with on demand entertainment, or fully recline to a fully flat bed for sleeping.

Upon boarding we were gifted an Amenity kit packed with inflight essentials, along with noise cancelling headphones to use inflight.

All of them are standard. First class consists of 8 open suites that have 180 degrees recline. After i found my seat, my flight attendant greeted me and served me champagne.

Straight away that makes some seats in the business class cabin a lot more desirable than others.
